About Sam

Sam has died and we look for answers

Did a car crash kill him? Was it bacteria?

Or some sheer bad luck maybe?

Sam has died and it could

Very well be our own damn fault

That is not to say we’ve killed him

Who is it that experiences death

The chaos, despair, deep grief

And the sense of loss

Is it him, is it us?

Sam has died

And a part of us died with him

Just like when a part of us was born

When he was

Without ever having paid a thought to death

Never having appreciated its immediacy

Having failed to respect its nature

Its very potency

We have allowed Sam to die

Tragically

Sam has died

We were unprepared

We didn’t really know him
